Long time residents, Paul and Edith Van Wyck were each active in service to the Leonia community for decades.
Paul rose through the ranks of the Leonia Police Department over his 42 year career. From motorcycle patrol in 1926 to a 15 year tenure as Chief, he served the Borough of Leonia until his retirement in 1968.
Edith worked at the Borough Hall as assistant to the tax collector, as well as secretary to the Leonia Board of Health until her retirement. She also enjoyed her participation in the Leonia Volunteer Ambulance corps over many years.
Some favorite memories of my childhood include Memorial Days: watching my parents march in the parade, the Wood Park ceremony, the Fire House barbecue, and the Police vs. Fire Department soft ball game that followed.
