Edgar Howard Bogert was born in Leonia on March 3, 1893, the son of Arthur Demerest Bogert and Lilie (Du Bois) Bogert. He grew up on Grand Avenue along with his siblings Albert, Andrew, Katherine (Kittie) and Frank. After studying architecture, he became a successful builder and contractor. He was “Clerk of the Works” for Leonia and oversaw many projects in Leonia. Working with his brother, Frank Waterbury Bogert, they were responsible for such works as the 1928 addition to the Presbyterian Church, which had been founded by his parents in 1899 and the addition to Anna C. Scott School in the 1960s. He resided at 408 Fort Lee Road until his death on October 1, 1974.
